[00:00:03] Speaker A: Hello and welcome to the Solopreneur Sisterhood Podcast. A podcast designed to help heart centered service providers like you build a purposeful, profitable and sustainable business that supports what matters most to you. I'm your host Becky McClary and I am so grateful that you are here. Now, while I love the freedom of having my own business, I can admit that being a Solopreneur can sometimes feel lonely and at the same time I think that a lot of what we see online can actually hold us back from success because we slip into comparison and self doubt. With this in mind, I wanted to have conversations with other solopreneurs and so we're doing a special series. Each episode is short so that it's easy to listen whenever you need a little bit of encouragement. My hope is that these episodes will inspire you and and remind you that you are not alone. This special series is brought to you by the Solopreneur Sisterhood Society, a close knit, supportive mastermind and business community that goes beyond your regular business course or mastermind group. It's a movement transforming how women build their businesses through connection and collaboration. The women featured in this series are the types of women you'll find inside the society and we'd love to have you join us. I invite you to learn more and apply to join our next cohort by visiting the Solopreneur Sisterhood.com society. In this episode we're talking with Remy Mensera, who is a personal brand story strategist who works one on one with service providers, coaches and consultants, especially those navigating a transition in their business. She helps them articulate their stories to build trust with new audiences and create deep connections with potential customers. REME developed the 10 story connectors framework which guides them in identifying 10 key moments from their journey that highlight the benefits and key factors of what they offer. That way they know exactly which stories to share, when and why, whether they're refreshing their About Me page, creating new content, preparing for a podcast tour, or addressing objections in a sales call. Remy is also the host of who Cares About My Story? A podcast on how sharing your personal brand story can impact your business. Welcome Remy. I am so excited to have you join us here today. Before we really dive in though, I would just love to hear more about your story. So can you tell us what you do and how you found your way to this work? [00:02:35] Speaker B: Yeah, sure. First of all, thank you for having me. So my name is Remy Mancera and I am a personal brand story strategist. So I help people to use their Personal brand story, especially when they are about to be in front of a new audience and they want to showcase that they are trustworthy and they know their stuff. So I help them to figure out how to use their story for that. But instead of looking for one story, I help them to identify 10 meaningful moments in their journey that highlight what they offer. I call those the 10 story connectors. [00:03:15] Speaker A: Awesome. Okay. [00:03:18] Speaker B: I always say that I am really lucky to be working on stories and helping others with their stories because I have been passionate about stories since I was a child. And for example, I remember when they opened the first public library in my neighborhood. I was super excited and I was one of the first people getting my library card. And it was just amazed about the idea of reading all these books and all these stories. And yes. So this was really something that is in my mind. And when I work with clients, it's like when you. You know when you see the COVID of a book and you just see the image and the title, but you don't really know what are all the amazing stor that happened to the characters. So the saying when I work with someone is like, I know what they do or maybe what they are sharing the socials. But these. All these stories that provide context about who they are and why they do what they do. So that's really beautiful. So I always. I am so grateful though, to be working around that. [00:04:36] Speaker A: I love that so much. And yeah, story is so important, and I know that a lot of business owners struggle with that. So I love how you have this unique process to help your clients with that. And I would imagine it helps to build their confidence too. Once they work with you, they not only have the stories, but they feel more confident in sharing them and in how they relate to their potential clients. So. [00:05:01] Speaker B: Yeah. [00:05:02] Speaker A: Oh. So I just was curious, how did you start your business? Were you always kind of doing this type of work or what led you to start your business? [00:05:11] Speaker B: Yeah, so actually I started as a va, a virtual assistant for course creators. I was working in this 9 to 5, and I was just not happy with the idea of not being able to work remotely. This company was not okay with the idea of me working remotely. So I actually was a podcast that I listened to and they shared this thought of if not now, when? If not now, maybe never. And that somehow it. And I was like, yeah, I need a change. I need to do something. And I decided to quit that and starting my business as a va. But soon I realized that the part that I enjoy most was like designing the strategies for the content creators, like the lunches and promoting their courses. So I bring back knowledge from the university and then also study new things and digital strategies and so on. And that's how I came across personal brand strategy. [00:06:22] Speaker A: Okay. [00:06:22] Speaker B: And it started offering that because most of my clients, they were the face of their business. So it made a lot of sense for me to help them, like serving them in this way. And that's how it started with personal brand in general, our own strategy. But again, working through it was like, yeah, the part that I enjoy most is the stories and this so powerful to share. That's why I was focusing more and more on the stories and I created this framework and yeah, this where I am now. [00:06:55] Speaker A: Yeah, wonderful. I love that. I love how you've realized you needed a change and you started with one thing with being a virtual assistant and then you got more clarity as you went along. And I, I can completely relate to that. That sometimes we don't really know what it is we want to be doing until we get into that work. And I think that's one of the biggest recommendations I make for those early on in business is just get started, just start working with clients because you're going to get so much more clear doing that work about what you enjoy, what you don't enjoy. Whereas, like in the planning stages, it's really hard to know. So I love how you kind of evolved as you went along and got more clear. So looking back on your business, what is one thing that you know now that you wish you had known when you started out? [00:07:45] Speaker B: I would say the power of networking and being like in supportive communities. I have seen how especially for this is my experience for in the online space. I have as a BA and then as strategies around personal brand, I have found how it's more collaboration over competition and how you are specialized in something. So I might not be the right person for someone, but I know that other person that can support them. And this has been from the beginning, this idea of getting to know other people. But I have been in like this process where I have been learning more and more about what makes sense for me, which kind of communities are the good ones for me and my approach and my style and what I appreciate and all that. So is because at the beginning, I remember the first time that I was going to a networking event and was something like I felt off. I was not in my place. This was not for me. I am an introvert. And now I can say, yeah, I know my style, I know what I Appreciate and I can decide, okay, I want to come back to this networking event or not. [00:09:16] Speaker A: Yes. [00:09:16] Speaker B: Also having the possibility of you can do in person, you can do online, you just find your way and what makes sense for you. But yeah, at the beginning, the first experience was not like them. The, the one that made me okay. This for me. [00:09:33] Speaker A: I love how you share that though, because I can recall trying some networking groups and coming away feeling awful. And I slipped into that doubt like, oh, maybe there's something wrong with me, maybe I don't belong here. And then over time I realized, oh, no, that's just not how I like connecting with people, or that just wasn't my group of people. But there are other groups that are good fit. So I think that would be my best recommendation based off of what you shared. Just, you know, if you go to one event and it's not a great fit, okay, you've learned from there. Maybe take a little time to identify what did I not love about this? You know, I've been to ones where sometimes it just turns into a couple people talking and everyone else is just kind of sitting there. So if you can identify what wasn't a good fit, that helps you get a little more clear about what is. But then try other ones. And, and really, you don't need to have a million networking groups if you have just a, a couple that are a good fit for you, you can build really strong relationships through that. So I, I love that advice and I wish I had known that earlier on. So, okay, so looking back on your business, what would you say is the best piece of advice you have received over the years? [00:10:43] Speaker B: I would say simplify to amplify. [00:10:48] Speaker A: Okay. [00:10:49] Speaker B: And I, I get this idea of, okay, try to do things as simple as possible and how that will help you to amplify the impact of what you do. [00:11:03] Speaker A: Okay. [00:11:03] Speaker B: So I said, I, I turned this into my own saying and I remember even my clients is like, I have your voice telling me this in my. Because I said simplify and focus. So, okay, you simplify, but then focus on something and then again the impact that you are going to have is bigger. So that will be the advice. [00:11:29] Speaker A: I love that. I think that's so helpful. I know it's easy to get kind of caught up with all of these different ideas. I know a lot of business owners who just are creative and ideas keep coming and we kind of scatter our energy if we're trying to do too much at once. So I love this reminder that we can simplify and focus and that that's going to help to amplify the impact that we make. Okay, so if someone is listening right now and just feeling kind of discouraged in their business or frustrated or overwhelmed, what would you. What advice would you give them today? [00:12:01] Speaker B: I would say that not nothing is set on stone. So you can experiment. You can just take a step, small step in the direction that you feel could be the right one. And it's okay. Just look at it as an experiment. Just try and then analyze, okay, this going the right direction that I want. How do I feel about this? And then just change if you need to and decide on the next small step. So I would say going with the experimenting mode give you a lot of. At least for me has given me a lot of this. Getting out the pressure of this needs to be the right move. I am experimenting. This just a test so things can go in the right direction or in the wrong, but at least I will analyze and learn if I want to keep going in that direction or not. So, yeah, and small steps, that will be important as well. [00:13:13] Speaker A: Yes. I think that's so brilliant. And you gave us multiple things that we can try. So one is, I love that mindset of it's an experiment, like just giving it a try. Because I do think we sometimes have put so much pressure on ourselves to make things work. And. And if we can view it as an experiment and either it will work out or we'll learn something that will help us, I think that's just so much more empowering. And I love the recommendation for small steps, too. I know a lot of business owners who tend to try to do a lot. I think a lot of us are overachievers, and then we stress ourselves out and we do feel overwhelmed. And so those small steps can be really helpful. So thank you for that. So I know that I want to be mindful of everyone's time and there are going to be people who are listening and thinking, okay, this was a good start, but I want to learn more. So can you tell our listeners how they can connect with you beyond this interview? [00:14:08] Speaker B: Of course. So they can go to my website, which is Rememancera.com and they can always connect with me on Instagram or LinkedIn. And then if they want to listen more about personal brand story and how it can impact your business. And I invite them to go to my podcast, who cares about my story. [00:14:32] Speaker A: I love that. Thank you so much. And for our listeners, we will have links to all of those resources right by this recording. So that way it's very easy to find and you can continue the journey beyond this episode. So I want to thank you again so much for joining us.
